An Occupational Therapist is a licensed practitioner that uses a variety of skills and strategies to help their clients perform everyday activities with greater ease and independence. They play a vital role in the enhancement of an individuals quality of life in each of the following areas; physical, developmental, emotional, and social. Their work not only facilitates physical rehabilitation, but also supports a patient's mental health as OTs will often use a holistic approach to development, recovery, and rehabilitation.

Occupational Therapists, also known as "OTs" are the unsung heroes in the healthcare sector as they earnestly work with patients across the lifespan to help individuals live their life to the fullest, irrespective of their limitations. OTs complete comprehensive evaluations to develop a specific and targeted treatment plan that meets the unique needs of each client. These treatment plans may include, but are not limited to, goals that address motor skills, activities to enhance cognitive function, strategies for daily tasks, and recommendations for adaptive equipment. Adaptive equipment refers to devices designed to assist individuals with injuries or disabilities. An OT uses their expertise to set goals, make recommendations, advocate for their clients, and empower individuals to overcome obstacles and engage in their respective communities.

April is national Occupational Therapy Month and the significance of these clinicians extends beyond this month. Occupational Therapists are integral to the healthcare community and they offer invaluable services that greatly enhance the lives of those they serve. Let's celebrate the contributions of OTs this month (and every month)!
